A remote Norweigan town is the latest victim of the sub-prime mortgage meltdown. Eight communities in the Arctic circle have collectively lost almost 0m after investing the money offshore. Hamish MacDonald reports from Narvik.

Piracy.
It had little to do with the housing market. It was making bad loans to prop up an economy based on the consumption of crap. I personally was getting phone calls and letters every day for years begging me to take loans and cash advances. You make bad loans you go out of business. In the U.S., you make bad loans and the government takes money under threat of jail from the people and gives the banks more money to go out and make more loans. It was not just Bush, Obama backed this plan as well.

Only troops Norway had in Iraq, were engineering troops, which were trying to rebuild powerplants, sewers and water supplies.

what is more pressing is the situation in afghanistan. they need more help than iraq. how about do a few free things for them.

I live in norway and i say it to everyone i meet every time we bring the issue up: Norway MUST stop investing in USA and it’s israeli owned assets, don’t you people realize we are nothing but a naive milking cow to these people? The Norwegian Oil Reserve Fund is STILL mostly made up of investment in US stocks! This after Norway was tricked to sell it’s gold reserves of 37 tonnes in 2005, since then gold has shot up more than 80% in value, gold is known to mirror image the stock trends since 1929
the U.S. has over 140,000 troops in Iraq and about 35,000 in Afghanista. the U.S. spend $10 billion a month in Iraq versus $2 billions in Afghanistan. Iraq has about 24 millions people while versus Afghanistan 30 millions. Afghanistan land mass also bigger. why the hell the U.S. spend so much resource in Iraq? it must be Iraq oil that the U.S. is more interest in. think!
