www.cambridge-credit.org — You might not be aware of it, but there a growing number of fantastic programs designed to help Americans understand the complex nature of personal finance and prepare them for the future. Some programs, such as Junior Achievement, focus on young people. Other programs, like the ones conducted by Cambridge Credit Counseling, are geared toward adult audiences, who may already be dealing with difficult times. The federal government is also participating in this push. As mandated in the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003, the Government established a hotline, 1-888-My Money, as well as a national financial education website, MyMoney.gov. There is also financial assistance available to those that do not have need according to federal guidelines but that require assistance in paying for college costs. This aid is primarily in the form of low interest loans. What is Financial Need? According to federal guidelines, financial need is based on the following equation: The information you report on theFree Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to calculate your EFC, which is a measure of your familys financial strength. The EFC is used to determine your eligibility for federal student assistance. The formula for the EFC calculation is established by law. About St. Petersburg College: In 1927, St. Petersburg College (then known as St. Petersburg Junior College) became Florida’s first private, non-profit, two-year school of higher learning located in downtown St. Petersburg. Full accreditation followed in 1931 and in 1948 SPC became a public college. In June 2001, SPJC officially became St. Petersburg College when Florida’s governor signed legislation making it the first community college in Florida to offer four-year degrees. On Dec. 11, 2001, the college received the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools’ accreditation to offer courses leading to bachelor’s degrees.
